Hmmm...winter.

We're stuck in the midst of quite the ice storm. Ick. I woke up at 4 am today trying to figure out how best to make it into work and holding out hope that they'd just close the building. Of course not. Everything in KC seemed to be closed and even Rich got the day off of work. But not me. I got showered and starting getting ready around 5 this morning when what should happen? Oh yes, the power went out. And stayed out. I managed to get ready by candlelight and Rich was going to drive me to the bus stop when we heard this loud crash. Several of our big tree limbs had fallen and were blocking the driveway. So I tried calling in to work but no one was there yet. So I did the best thing--I went back to bed. LOL Around 7:30, I awoke with a start when another tree limb came crashing down and the lights came on. Scared the CRAP outta me. LOL

I called in to work to see if everyone was showing up and they were, so I decided I'd be a trooper and go in, too. Rich had to move all the tree pieces out so we could get out of the driveway and thankfully he was able to drive me into work since I'd missed the last bus to downtown and there was no way in HELL I was driving in the weather. (I'm a freak about driving, remember?!) Anyway, I got to work about 9:30 and all was going well until about 2:00 when the powers-that-be decided to close down all Social Security buildings. Well, that would be fine and dandy except I don't have a vehicle and the first bus back to Blue Springs doesn't arrive until 3:45. *sigh* Thankfully, Rich is a hell of a guy and he came to pick me up. I still don't know why they didn't just close the building in the first place.

It took us over an hour to get home due to the roads and traffic and various accidents. But we made it and now I'm just trying to stay warm!

Gotta love the winter. Or not.
